Input = Outcome
Pattern's core value of Learning Forward is the idea of continuous improvement. We want to see better and better decisions and outcomes each day.
What does it mean if our outcomes aren't what we are hoping for? It probably means our INPUTS are out of whack.
Our outcomes are mostly dictated by our inputs:
what we consume regularly and;
who we are around most of the time.
Our Consumption:
Many people put themselves on disciplined diet of mental junk-food. We(I) spend so much time watching less-than-edifying tv shows, scrolling mindlessly through social media, and intaking biased news from crappy sources.
If your goal is to be a better leader, spouse, or person, then how will these inputs help us to grow? Uh, they won't.
There is not a lack of great content to consume that we have access to. If you're interested let us know the area you want to grow and we likely have a recommendation or two to share with you.
Our Circle:
You've probably also heard the saying that you are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with.
Fun (or shocking) Exercise: Think about the 5 closest relationships you have. On average, do you share a similar maturity level, life goals, income, health, and life priorities?
It's probably freaky close. If it isn't close, you are rainbow unicorn.
So, if you are looking to have better outcomes, start surrounding yourself with people who have achieved or are pursing the outcomes you want.
Your simple equation for today is Input = Outcome
