The Compound Effect
How many years of experience do you have? If you've applied for any job ever, this question comes up frequently. For me, it's easy to assert that I have 13 years of experience in the doctor insurance industry.
BUT, the question is: Do I have 13 years of experience OR just 1 year of experience that has been repeated 13 times?
Getting locked into our everyday tasks can easily keep us from continuously improving.
Darren Hardy, in his book The Compound Effect (highly recommend), says:
"if you were to improve by just 1% everyday for a year you will not be only be 3.65 times better (365%) by the end of the year but 36 times better."
Now, the idea getting "36 times better" in a year seems daunting, but it requires very small, incremental changes each day. You don't have to transform all at once.
As you begin to choose the areas of life you want to grow in, make a plan to execute on the goal has frequently as possible no matter how small the movement.
If you do this, your year of experience will really mean something…you actually GREW!
