Two Doctors, $700K a Year, About $600 Left
Two physicians. $700,000 a year. How much is left at the end of the month?
Here's a household I see a version of all the time. They aren't reckless. They both max their 401(k)s. After taxes, about $35,600 a month comes in.
Then the house, the nanny, two car payments, both sets of student loans, insurance, food, and travel. Nothing on that list is crazy. Every decision made sense on its own.
That's what makes this hard to see from the inside. The fix isn't a budgeting app. It's the two or three big decisions you make in your first few years.
The math: $400K + $300K, filing jointly, 5% state tax, a $1.6M house with 10% down at about 7.25%. Your numbers will differ.
